世界各国のRoots & Shoots コーディネーターがウィンザー城に集結! 一週間のカンファレンスを開催 Roots & Shoots Coordinators from Across the World Gathering at St George’s House
ジェーン・グドール博士とSt. George’s houseの特別なつながりのおかげで、世界中のRoots & ShootsのコーディネーターがSt. George’s houseにて対面およびオンラインで集まることができました。各国のコーディネーターは、頻繁にオンラインでは顔を合わせていますが、対面で集うことは過去にもあまり多くなく、この貴重な機会に心から感謝申し上げます。
7月20日から7月27日まで、城壁に囲まれ外観も重厚な雰囲気を漂わせるイギリスのウィンザー城内にあるSt. George’s houseでカンファレンスが開催されました。カナダ、オランダ、オーストリア、チリ、USA、UK、UAE、南アフリカ、台湾、ルワンダ、フランス、タンザニア、アルゼンチン、マレーシア、イタリア、インド、ハンガリー、トルコ、アルゼンチン、ブルンジ、日本、ウガンダ、ベルギー、シンガポール、スイス、ドイツ、上海、イスラエル、マリ、ネパール、スペイン、オーストラリア、香港、そしてグローバルのRoots & Shootsの各国コーディネーターが集まりました。
世界各国から集まったRoots & Shootsのコーディネーターたちは、互いの知識や経験を共有し、課題や解決策をともに話し合い、新しいアイデアをブレインストーミングし、各支部から多くの声を聞きました。早朝から夜遅くまで議論は尽きることなく、喋り倒しの1週間。もちろん、ジェーン博士もメールの返信作業に追われていないとき以外は、カンファレンスには全参加。
共通の課題もあれば、それぞれの地域特有の課題も。日本においては、まだ再始動をしたばかりなため、吸収することがたくさんありました。情報量が多く共有し忘れないようにと思い、カンファレンス中にひらめきのようなものがある度に、Roots & Shootsグループへは個別に共有させていただきました。

オーストリアやオーストラリアと以前から始めていたRoots & Shootsグループ同士のグローバルな交流プログラムは、これからアップデートしてより多くのグループへ提供ができそうです！ 世界中のグループと手紙や動画の交換をする、Pen Pal ProgramやN.I.C.E. Program（N.I.C.E: Network of Inter-Cultural Exchange）に興味がある方がいましたら、ぜひご連絡くださいませ。 異なる文化や民族、宗教、生活環境にいる世界中の人たちと互いに理解を深めることも、Roots & Shootsのミッションの一つです。今、日本でもいくつかの地域のグループや学校のグループが他国のRoots & Shootsグループと交流しており、自分たちの興味関心のあること、活動のことだけでなく、地域の魅力を伝えたり、好きな動物について質問しあったり、固有種について紹介するなどしています。

さらに、UKで始まったRoots & Shootsのスクールツアーや、遠く離れたアフリカのJGIのサンクチュアリーで暮らすチンパンジーの里親になれるChimp Guardian Programも日本でも展開すべく準備中です。整い次第またご報告します。時差の少ないアジア太平洋地域でのコラボイベントも今後増えていきそうです。乞うご期待！
何より、リアルで各国のコーディネーター同志が繋がりを持てたことで、今後より一層コラボレーションや協働することが容易になりました。運営においても互いに助け合い、リソースはさらにシェアしあい、発展を後押ししていくものとなります。

Roots & Shootsを通してつながる、グローバルファミリーの絆は、とても愛情深く、温かい。様々なテーマについて話し合った一週間は濃密であり、世界そして日本の発展にポジティブな影響をもたらしていきます。若者をはじめとする多くの人々が、日々の行動で変化をもたらし、集団で変革を実現できることを再確認するものでした。

Thanks to the special connection between Dr. Jane Goodall and St. George’s House, Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots coordinators from across the world had the rare opportunity to convene in person and virtually for an impactful gathering. While coordinators from different countries frequently meet online, opportunities to gather face-to-face have been rare, making this a truly valuable experience for which we are deeply grateful.
The conference was held from July 20th to July 27th at St. George’s House, located within the majestic walls of Windsor Castle in the UK. Coordinators from Canada, the Netherlands, Austria, Chile, USA, UK, UAE, South Africa, Taiwan, Rwanda, France, Tanzania, Argentina, Malaysia, Italy, India, Hungary, Turkey, Burundi, Japan, Uganda, Belgium, Singapore, Switzerland, Germany, Shanghai, Israel, Mali, Nepal, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, and the Roots & Shoots Global team came together.
During this week, the Roots & Shoots coordinators shared knowledge and experiences, discussed challenges and solutions, brainstormed new ideas, and listened to many voices from different branches. Discussions continued from breakfast till late at night, making it an intense week of continuous conversations.
While there were shared challenges, each region also faced its own unique issues. For Japan, which has only recently restarted its activities, there was much to absorb. To ensure all the emerging ideas and rich information to be released for success, I have been sharing the insights individually with the Roots & Shoots group (Apologize for the sudden slacks and emails to all!!)
The global Pen Pal Program is ready to set for more Roots & Shoots groups to join! If you are interested in the Pen Pal Program or the N.I.C.E. Program (Network of Inter-Cultural Exchange), which involves exchanging letters and videos with Roots & Shoots groups around the world, please get in touch. Fostering mutual understanding among people from different cultures, ethnicities, religions, and living environments is one of the core missions of Roots & Shoots. In Japan, several regional and school groups are already interacting with Roots & Shoots groups in other countries, sharing not just their activities and interests but also introducing local attractions, asking each other about their favorite animals, and discussing endemic species.
Also, we are now preparing to establish the Chimp Guardian Program in Japan, which enables individuals and organizations around the world to become guardians of the chimpanzees living in JGI sanctuaries in Africa. We will provide updates as these initiatives take shape, so stay tuned!
Most importantly, the opportunity for coordinators from different countries to connect in person has greatly enhanced the potential for future collaboration and cooperation. This will allow us to help each other more in operations, share resources, and support each other’s growth.
The bond of the global family connected through Roots & Shoots is incredibly loving and warm. We can feel Jane’s wisdom running in everyone’s heart. The intensive week of discussions on various topics will have a positive impact on the development of the world and Japan. It reaffirmed that each individual can bring about change through their daily actions and achieve collective transformation.
