Roots & Shoots Youth Conference Recap Movie!
横浜インターナショナルスクールで開催されたRoots & Shootsのユースカンファレンス。昨年に続き、第二回目の開催となりました。10のプレゼンテーションと3つのワークショップを行い、70名以上が集うイベントとなりました。
ユースカンファレンスの目的は、
🤝グループ同士が楽しく交流できること
👀互いの活動を通して学び合えること
🎉互いのアクションを温かくセレブレイトすること
🌳そしてルーツ&シューツに興味のある方が参加できる場にすることです！

1️⃣🥛牛乳パックから和紙のハガキ作り by 横浜インターナショナルスクール @yis.ssc
横浜インターナショナルスクールのルーツ＆シューツ グループは、テトラパックのリサイクルプロジェクトを行い、コレクティブインパクトをもたらしています。その活動の中で、紙パックからハガキも作ってチャリティ販売しています。今回、和紙を作る方法を教えてくれました。
2️⃣🐝ミツロウラップ作り by 森と動物 @mori_to_doubutsu
プラスチック廃棄物を減らすためには、再利用可能な代替品を使うことは日々できるアクションの一つ！少しずつ積み重ねることで大きな影響を与えることができます。「森と動物」のルーツ＆シューツグループが蜜蝋ラップ作りをガイド！ミツロウは横須賀の養蜂場（Earth Bee Farm）、ハギレは葉山お洋服屋さん（Sunshine + Cloud）から分けていただきました。
3️⃣🪴Seeds of Hope
種を植えることは、環境に良い簡単で楽しいアクションです。植物を植えることの価値やヘチマに関する紙芝居を臨床美術師の𣕚木さん @mt.artws が作成してくださいました。みんなで紙芝居を通してQAセッションを行った後、種を紙製の卵パックに植えて持ち帰りました。ヘチマの種は横須賀のSho Farmさんより分けていただきました。ヘチマタワシを作るまで観察できたら最高！ 自然とつながり、種のパワーを知り、小さな行動が地球に大きな変化をもたらすことができるんです。
🌱 Following last year’s success, we had our second Roots & Shoots Youth Conference together with Yokohama International School! With 10 presentations, 3 workshops, and over 70 attendees, the event turned out to be a truly inspiring gathering.
The goals of the Youth Conference are:
🤝 To foster fun and meaningful interactions between different groups
👀 To learn from each other’s activities and experiences
🎉 To celebrate each group’s actions and achievements warmly
🌳 To create a space where those interested in Roots & Shoots can participate
A heartfelt thank you to all the groups who shared their stories from Yokohama International School @yis.ssc , First Step @first_step_shimonoseki , Mori to Doubutsu @mori_to_doubutsu , Shinagawa International School @shinagawa.is , and of course, thank you to everyone who participated and to our amazing volunteers!

🥛 Handmade Washi Postcards from Milk Cartons – by Yokohama International School
The Roots & Shoots group at Yokohama International School runs a Tetra Pak recycling project, creating a collective impact through their efforts. As part of their activities, they upcycle paper cartons into postcards and sell them for charity. In this workshop, they shared how to make traditional washi-style paper from recycled cartons.
🐝 Beeswax Wrap Making – by Mori to Doubutsu
Using reusable alternatives is a simple yet effective action to reduce plastic waste! Small steps lead to a big impact over time. The Roots & Shoots group, Mori to Doubutsu, guided participants in making beeswax wraps. The beeswax was sourced from Earth Bee Farm in Yokosuka, and the fabric scraps were kindly provided by the Hayama-based clothing store Sunshine + Cloud.
🪴 Seeds of Hope
Planting seeds is an easy and fun way to support the environment! Clinical art therapist Maiko Tamoki created a picture-story show (kamishibai) about the importance of growing plants and the fascinating journey of the loofah plant. After an interactive Q&A session, participants planted seeds in paper egg cartons to take home. The loofah seeds were generously provided by Sho Farm in Yokosuka. Watching the plants grow into natural loofah sponges would be amazing (Another alternative of plastic!). This workshop helped connect people with nature, discover the power of seeds, and understand how small actions can bring big changes to our planet.
